Shiy De-Jinn (1923-1981) still is one of Taiwan's most celebrated artists. He reflected the artistic atmosphere of his time. His paintings showed his view of his country and people, modernization of Taiwan, the internal struggles of people. Shiy enjoyed painting the folk traditions of Taiwan as he saw it and as it was changing.  He created portraits and scenery, used different techniques influenced by trends of the time, as well as some of his own, all which has made him a very respected and appreciated artist not just in Taiwan but around the world.
